Considering the amount of bandwidth it lately takes to keep these few gbs of audio up here, there seems to be an actual interest in my amateurish mixtapes, so I'll try to introduce the stuff briefly from now on. Today's short mixtape is all about dubstep. I'm in awe that three years into it the genre still sounds as fresh as ever and, oh yes, I'm still very much hooked. For me the genre has delivered jaw-dropping releases month after month since 2005 and October/November 2008 are no exceptions. Here's what I'm talking about:

Never been a huge Burial fan and Woon's original sounds like a really poor Lidell track, but this remix really has an undeniable quality to it. As an intro that is.

RSD's recent Tectonic release Over It / Forward Youth is a ridiculously killer drop. The same goes for the axegrinder Misfit by Distance under Chestplate. The fierce subs and rippling stepper bass these three tracks present blend together a sound so dirty that you wanna shower once you're through. By far the coolest shit I've heard past two months.

The meat of the mixtape. Especially decent are the Punch Drunk tracks here. Punch is my second favorite dubstep label that has been pumping out raw Bristol sound since 2006. It's sick how their every release just kills it proper. Don't take my word for it though, just listen to the Carlson track. Wobblestep is what it is! Zimbal dub is just as wonky, although a lot easier to the ear than Elemental's usual menacing bass minimalism. Skream's Heads is no Red Stripe but is nevertheless a serious nod to the old-school dubstep, my fave track on the new Skreamizm for sure.

As an aftermath to the bombardment above, here's a lush gem of a track by Dafluke with an adorably jirky but danceable rhythm. And to tidy things up we finish with a Moonstarr remix of an oldie, a Morricone track, which was a stellar highpoint on a soundtrack of one of my all time favourite bunuelish curios - Paolo Spinola's Fantasies of a Sensuous Woman.
